well it seems to be getting easier
my wife ran with me last night to do the speed work out. we ran 5 1/5 mile laps, walking a lap in between. i ran my fist lap in 1 minute. there were some highschool kids there from the track team running 5:12 minute miles, i felt real foolish huffing an puffing after one lap as they peeled of miles at the same pace. I found out one thing, my wife is a little speed demond. those little leggs were flying around the track. i was really impressed with how she kept up with me in the speed workout. we completed out laps and then ran a mile to cool down. i will have to say that i am actually looking forward to my workouts now and feeling pretty good about hittin the times i need to hit. robie is still a ways away, but running 8 miles up hill is a huge challenge. out new store is about to open tomorrow, and life should get back to somewhat normal next week. *+-9+-9+-9+-9+-9+-9+-9+-9+-9 (the cat just typed that)

too much snow
Well last saturday was my first training session with a long run. i needed to run 4 miles at 8:40. The weather was really crappy, cold and windy. KaLynne and i ran on the greenbelt in Nampa. I legged it out at around at 8:50. I felt good about it, because i was fighting the wind. Something happened though and i really hurt my calf on the right side. It really feels weird, there is a cord deep in my calf that is killing me. It is really tight and hurts to the touch. Doctor K is rehabbing me with some deep tissue massage and stretching. the neighbors probably think she is torturing me, because i am screaming at the top of my lungs when she digs in.
I skipped my run this tuesday, i was afraid that the speed workout would hurt my calf and it was kalynnes birthday on wednesday. I stayed up until midnight baking my first cake. It would not have won a beauty contest, but it didnt taste bad and its the thought that counts.
Tonight (1/10/08) i ran my tempo work out. 2.5 miles at a 8 min pace. I was really worried about my calf. Kalynne and I started by jogging three laps to warm up. I stretched after that and then ran. The rec center indoor track is 1/5 a mile. My times were as follows

so i averaged exactly 8 min miles. I was very happy with that result and my calf hurts a little, but i am still ok. I will run 4 miles on saturday with some light hills. i am feeling pretty good about my progress so far.

day two
Well today was my tempo run. Two miles at 8 minutes per mile. i normally run a 5k at 8 minute miles, but havent been running at that pace for that far for a while. I had been dreading it all day making up excuses in my mind giving myself an out. Well, 7:00 pm arrived and it was time to run. i warmed up with a 1/2 mile jog and then set out to get it over with. I felt really good on the first mile and ran a 7:50. The second mile was a little harder, but i crossed at 16:08. so i averaged 8:04, not bad. i kept running for a 1/2 mile longer and then walked a lap and a half. I finished with a 1 mile jog. All in all, I felt pretty good. now i have to run 4 miles on saturday.

day one, cold and miserable
Well i started my training for robie today and it was about 38 degrees and windy. i think my wife is trying to kill me slowly with this training plan. last night i worked out at the gym doing squats, leg curls and extensions. i followed that up with some lunges in the gym and high leg skipping. i started todays work out with a 10 minute run to the school in our neighborhood to use their track for some speed work. i was supposed to do 4x400 at a 1:45 pace. i ran the first one in 1:33 and then couldnt finish the next one. i augmented this work out with a sprint, walk, sprint, jog, sprint. i finished up with a 16 minute run, the long way back to the house. i am feeing pretty good for a first work out, but it will be a long road ahead. i am not telling anyone that i am running robie creek this, year except for my wife. i am doing this for me and dont want any other pressure. i want to know that i did it simply because i wanted to. well i am off for now see you on thursday.
